Triple arthrodesis has remained an excellent therapeutic modality for many disabling foot problems. Classical arthrodesis involves excision of significant amounts of the opposing tarsal joint surfaces, a procedure that may not be necessary in all cases. Tarsal fusion by means of iliac bone block inlay grafting provides an excellent alternative in selected cases, minimizing many of the problems associated with classical triple arthrodesis, such as postoperative edema, alteration of foot shape, and pseudarthrosis.
