BACKGROUND
Mucinous cystadenomas of the ovary are known for their potential to grow to massive proportions and are often incidentally diagnosed. They are typically benign tumors accounting for 15% of ovarian neoplasms and up to 80% of all mucinous tumors.
METHODS
We report a 50-year-old, morbidly obese female admitted with left lower extremity edema who was incidentally found to have a massive, benign, mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary. The tumor was managed by laparotomy, cystectomy, and right salpingo-oophorectomy. Pathology revealed a benign cyst.
CONCLUSIONS
The clinically silent course of these large, benign tumors can have unique presentations.
