OBJECTIVE
Our goal is to understand human prostate growth phenomena potentially important to BPH development and growth. The objective of the present study is to characterize in vitro prostate stromal proliferative factors in testis epididymal secretions.
METHODS
Human spermatocele fluids were used
The fluid composition of five epididymal spermatocoeles, one epididymal cyst and a hydrocoele was examined. The fluid obtained from the spermatocoeles was a dilute suspension of mainly immotile spermatozoa. The sperm-free fluid contained less protein, phosphate, glucose, triglyceride and cholesterol
The levels of testosterone (T) and 17-beta-estradiol (E2) in seminal plasma were determined by the direct RIA method with tritium-labelled testosterone and 17-beta-estradiol. Testosterone was determined in 47 ejaculates and E2 in 132 ejaculates of seven bulls whose age ranged from 10 to 26 months,
The testicular biopsy, spermiogram, and hormonal assays performed on 23 infertile adult men with no other apparent cause of infertility than bilateral retractile testes are reported. Both luteinizing hormone and testosterone levels were normal, while follicle-stimulating hormone levels were normal
Metallothionein (MT) concentrations were measured in the seminal plasma of 4 fertile and 35 infertile men and in the hydrocele and spermatocele fluids. The relationship between MT content and sperm density, total number of sperm per ejaculate, sperm motility and abnormal form rates, leukocyte count
Second- to fourth-digit length ratio, 2D:4D, is a marker of testosterone level during foetal life that was found associated with sperm concentration or testosterone levels in some studies, but not in others, a difference possibly related to the way the ratio is assessed. In this study, 2D:4D was
Sonography of the scrotal contents, the prostate and the seminal vesicles has become an important diagnostic tool in andrology. In a prospective study of 1048 consecutive patients attending the Institute of Reproductive Medicine only 520 patients (49.6%) did not show sonographic abnormalities of the
Prenatal and neonatal exposure to natural and synthetic estrogens induces developmental abnormalities in the male and female reproductive systems in several species. In hamsters, a single injection of diethylstilbestrol (DES) on the day of birth induces teratogenic and neoplastic changes throughout
The present study was designed to determine if neonatal exposure to the estrogenic mycotoxin zearalenone or the weakly estrogenic pesticide methoxychlor could masculinize and/or defeminize the behavior of female hamsters. Neonatal hamsters were given a single sc injection of either zearalenone (1
OBJECTIVE
Cryptorchidism represents the most frequent male genital anomaly in paediatric population and may potentially interfere with fertility and determine neoplastic testicular diseases. We wanted to evaluate the correlation between age at orchiopexy and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH),
OBJECTIVE
By investigating a birth cohort with a high ongoing participation rate to derive an unbiased population, what are the parameters and influences upon testicular function for a population not selected with regard to fertility?
CONCLUSIONS
While varicocele, cryptorchidism and obesity may
