OBJECTIVE
To research the chemical constituents from Eleutherine americana.
METHODS
Column chromatography with silica gel was employed to isolate and purify the constituents. Their structures were elucidated by means of MS and NMR.
RESULTS
Eight constituents were obtained and identified as
Two microscale separation techniques for the analysis of bioactive naphthoquinones in Eleutherine americana were developed and validated. By MEKC four compounds (eleuthoside B, isoeleutherin, eleutherol and eleutherinoside A) could be determined in plant extracts using an aqueous electrolyte
Seven new naphthoquinone derivatives, named eleutherins A-G (1-7), were isolated from the edible bulbs of Eleutherine americana (Hong-Cong), which belongs to the Iridaceae family. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis including high-resolution-electron spray
A new naphthoquinone, (-)-3-[2-(acetyloxy)propyl]-2-hydroxy-8-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (1) was isolated from the bulb of Eleutherine americana MERR. et HEYNE (Iridaceae) together with two known compounds, eleutherinol (6) and 1,5-dihydroxy-3-methylanthraquinone (7) which were found in this species
Ready-to-eat foods were investigated for contamination with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and the partially purified fractions from the bulb of Eleutherine americana were evaluated for their anti-MRSA activity. Partially purified fractions Ea6.3 and Ea9 demonstrated good
Four new polyketides, (R)-4-hydroxyeleutherin, eleuthone, eleutherinol-8-O-β-D-glucoside and isoeleuthoside C (dihydroisoeleutherin-5-O-β-D-gentiobioside) were isolated from the bulbs of Eleutherine bulbosa, to join eleutherin, isoeleutherin, eleutherinol, eleutherol, eleuthoside B
Eleutherin and eleutherol extracted from bulbs of Eleutherine bulbosa (Miller) Urb. (Iridaceae), collected in the Amazonian jungle and grown in Italy, were tested for biological properties. The extraction procedure and the results of antibacterial, cytotoxicity, and pharmacological assays are
The dichloromethane extract prepared from the underground parts of Eleutherine bulbosa (Miller) Urban (Iridaceae) showed strong activity in the direct bioautography assay with the phytopathogenic fungus Cladosporium sphaerospermum. This assay was used to guide the fractionation of this extract and
The first analytical procedure for the determination of a new naphthopyrone, eleutherinoside A, together with the known bioactive compounds eleuthoside B, isoeleutherin, eleutherin and eleutherol in Eleutherine americana was established. Optimum HPLC separation of these naphthoquinone derivatives
An active compound from the bulb of Eleutherine americana L. Merr. (Iridaceae) collected from East Kalimantan, Indonesia, was tested for its antidermatophyte and antimelanogenesis activity. Antifungal assay-directed fractionation of the n-hexane-soluble fraction of the methanolic extract of the bulb
