We report a case of cluster-like headache in a patient with a trigeminal neurinoma. Symptomatic cluster headache was suspected because of the absence of typical periodicity and the persistence of background headache. Magnetic resonance imaging findings were consistent with a trigeminal neurinoma.
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate intradural drilling as a mechanism for the development of postoperative headache after retrosigmoid craniectomy.
METHODS
A retrospective review of charts was performed on 565 retrosigmoid approaches to the cerebellopontine angle performed between January 1980 and January 1998.
OBJECTIVE
Our goal was to study the occurrence and source of origin of postcraniotomy headache syndrome after removal of vestibular schwannoma via the retrosigmoid approach.
METHODS
A retrospective chart analysis was conducted of all patients with headache at 3 months after removal of vestibular
The aim of the study was to evaluate aetiological factors for postoperative headache after vestibular schwannoma (VS) surgery with respect to asymmetric activation of vestibular reflexes. After surgery, 27 VS patients with persistent postoperative headache, 16 VS patients without headache and 9
A case is reported of schwannoma of the right masseteric nerve, invading the pterygopalatine fossa and the parapharyngeal space through the mandibular notch in a 61-year-old woman. The tumor in this case was composed of four various-sized interconnected nodules, simulating a string of beads. The
OBJECTIVE
Although headache in vestbibular schwannoma (VS) is uncommon as an initially presenting symptom, headache in VS is usually associated with tumor growth due to various factors, especially abrupt increase in size. We discuss various factors which influence rapid tumor growth including
Hypoglossal schwannoma is a rarely encountered skull base lesion that has generally both intracranial and extracranial parts. This article reports a case of hypoglossal schwannoma that is purely extracranial and presents itself only with persistent headache. Magnetic resonance imaging delineated a
Vestibular schwannoma (VS) is a brain tumour arising from Schwann cells that is typically closely associated with the vestibulocochlear nerve. Post-operative headaches (POH) are a potentially common complication of surgery for VS. Greatly differing rates of POH have previously been reported,
OBJECTIVE
The primary goals of this study were: 1) to examine the influence of disease and treatment on headache in patients with sporadic vestibular schwannoma (VS); and 2) to identify clinical predictors of long-term headache disability.
METHODS
This was a cross-sectional observational study with
Postoperative headache was studied among 251 patients who underwent operation for vestibular schwannoma. A questionnaire based on the McGill Pain Questionnaire and the Finnish Pain Questionnaire was sent to the patients. Twenty-one expressions describing postoperative headache were extracted with a
Our aim was to elucidate the aetiology of persistent postoperative headache, a common sequel for several years after vestibular schwannoma surgery through the retrosigmoid approach. Twenty-seven patients with reported major postoperative headache were tested for vestibular responses and
Background Regardless of the operative approach, headache, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, and pseudomeningoceles remain disproportionately common problems after surgery for vestibular schwannomas and have a significant negative impact on quality of life and potential to return to full
BACKGROUND
Anaplastic gangliogliomas at the cerebellopontine angle (CPA) are exceptionally rare with only a few reported cases in published literature. These are composed of atypical ganglion cells and astrocytes accounting for nearly 1% of all central nervous system tumors. The authors report the
Acoustic neurinomas containing cystic parts are fairly common, but it is extremely rare for acoustic neurinomas to be mainly composed of cysts. So far, we have encountered three such cases. We studied these cases retrospectively to correlate their characteristic clinical symptoms and their
