The pyrimidine analogues 2-thiouracil, 2-thiouridine, 6-azauracil and 6-azauridine all inhibited the synthesis of turnip yellow mosaic virus (TYMV) and increased the synthesis of empty virus protein shells in infected Chinese cabbage leaf discs. Uracil and uridine reversed these effects.
