Five novel steroidal glycosides 2-6 were isolated from the whole plant of Asclepias fruticosa L. (Asclepiadaceae). The structures of these steroidal glycosides were determined on the basis of spectral and chemical evidence. All of these glycosides contain 2,6-dideoxyhexopyranoses as component sugars
Asclepias fruticosa afforded, in addition to five known pregnane glycosides and 11 known cardenolide glycosides, four new pregnane glycosides and eleven new cardenolide glycosides. Structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and from chemical evidence.
Phytochemical investigation of Gomphocarpus fruticosus (L.) Ait. of Egyptian origin afforded the new pregnane glycoside lineolon-3-O-[β-D-oleandropyranosyl-(1-4)-β-D-cymaropyranosyl-(1-4)-β-D-cymaropyranoside], along with six known compounds. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated
The bushhopper Phymateus leprosus (Fabricius) in the field shows a special appetite for the milkweed Asclepias fruticosa. Asclepiadaceae, like Apocynaceae and Scrophulariaceae, contain cardiac glycosides. Raw and purified extracts of these plants phagostimulate larval and adult P. leprosus. We also
Steroidal constituents from the roots and stems of Asclepias fruticosa L. were investigated separately. From the roots, twelve pregnane pentaosides and uzarigenin beta-sophoroside were isolated together with three known coroglaucigenin and corotoxigenin glycosides. Pregnane glycosides were composed
