OBJECTIVE
To investigate the clinical course and outcome of peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis secondary to Gordonia species.
METHODS
We reviewed all Gordonia peritonitis episodes occurring in a single dialysis unit from 1994 to 2013.
RESULTS
During the study period, four episodes of
Gordonia terrae is a rare cause of clinical infections, with only 23 reported cases. We report the first case of peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis caused by Gordonia terrae in mainland China.
A 52-year-old man developed peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis and received preliminary
Gordonia species are aerobic, weakly acid-fast, Gram-positive pathogens that rarely cause human infections, usually in immunocompromised patients. It is uncommon bacilli in cases of peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis. The small number of infections with Gordonia species reported for humans may
We report here four cases of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis caused by three different species of Gordonia. The portal of entry was likely through Tenckhoff catheters. 16S rRNA and secA1 gene sequencing are so far the most reliable methods for the accurate
BACKGROUND
Peritonitis has remained the most common serious complication of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). In most cases, these infections are monomicrobial, and the pathogens involved most commonly are Staphylococci. Recently, polymicrobial infections with rare organisms have
Two bacterial strains, HKU50T and HKU46, were isolated in Hong Kong from the blood culture and the peritoneal dialysis effluent of two patients. The strains are Gram-stain-positive, acid-fast, non-motile, non-sporulating bacilli. They grow on Columbia agar with 5 % defibrinated sheep blood and
Enzymatic hydrolyzates of recycled paper sludge were tested as suitable feedstock for biological desulfurization by Gordonia alkanivorans strain 1B. Only the hydrolyzate obtained after enzymatic mixture dialysis (dialyzed hydrolyzate) allowed dibenzothiophene (DBT) desulfurization, in spite of
