Pattern of Upper Gastrointestinal Lesions in Upper Egypt : Clinical, Endoscopic and Pathological Evaluation

We will see what common GIT lesions happen in patients of upper Egypt

Blood samples (10 mL) were drawn at the time of DEXA scans in postpartum period

Serum and plasma of samples were than seperated and stored at -80 ºC until the assay. Serum phosphorus (P) and calcium (Ca) were measured by Ion selective electrode (ISE) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was measured by kinetic enzymatic method, with reagents of Beckman Coulter, on an auto-analyser (Olympus AU5400, Beckman Coulter, Inc., U.S.A.). Serum intact parathormone (iPTH) was analyzed by two-site immunoenzymatic method and 25-hidroxy D levels were analyzed by competetive immunoenzymatic method on UniCel DxI 800 Immunoassay System (Beckman Coulter, Inc., U.S.A.).

Hyperemesis Gravidarum and Osteoporosis

Is Hyperemesis Gravidarum a Risk Factor for Osteoporosis ?

All patients were performed on a standard dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA, Hologic Discovery Wi S/N 80848) during early postpartum period ( frequently in two days after birth before discharge of patients) by a single technician to assess osteoporosis. Blood samples include laboratory parameters associated with osteoporosis (Vitamin D, ALP, P, Ca and PTH).

Blood samples (10 mL) were drawn at the time of DEXA scans in postpartum period and collected into ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) containing sterile tubes and serum separator tubes (SSTs) to assess osteoporosis. Blood samples include laboratory parameters associated with osteoporosis (Vitamin D, ALP, P, Ca and PTH).

The sequence followed for patients in Group 1 was: enrollment and acquisition of baseline data, then placement of electrode, then determination of mucosal EGG, then randomization to Group 1, then active stimulation for 72 consecutive hours, then a 1 day wash out, then the cross over, which entailed the device remaining inactive for the final 3 study days

The sequence followed for patients in Group 2 was: enrollment and acquisition of baseline data, then placement of electrode, then determination of mucosal EGG, then randomization to Group 2, then no stimulation whatsoever until Day 5, then the cross over,then active stimulation with the Gastric Electrical Stimulator for 72 consecutive hours.

Transit time of a radio-labeled meal through the stomach, measured by scintigraphy for %contents remaining in the stomach at 1 hour, 2 hours, and 4 hours. GET measures were obtained at baseline, during the period allowed for 'washout', and on the final study day.
