Background:
Zinc is a metalloprotein. The two important function of zinc are- first, unlike other metals zinc is virtually non-toxic (1). The homeostatic mechanisms that regulate its entrance, allocation, and excretion from cells and tissues are so well-organized that no disorders are known to be
Anemia is a great public health problem affecting both developing and developed countries. It is considered the most prevalent form of malnutrition in children and adolescents.
Supplementation with standard iron therapy is the main treatment of iron deficiency anemia.
There are two types of iron
Objectives of the study:
Primary :
1. To compare seroconversion for OPV types P1 and P3 when administered alone versus when administered with OCV on day 28 and 56 after vaccination.
2. To compare vibriocidal antibody response (based on a ≥ 4-fold rise) to OCV when administered alone versus when
To conduct an exploratory study to understand the digestive tolerability of resistant maltodextrin (Fibersol-2) in young healthy and diarrhea children aged 1-3 years for 30 children at home and 30 children at hospital in phase 1. Additionally, propose to conduct a placebo-controlled, randomized,
This is a Phase 2, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of iOWH032 in adult patients (Part A) and then pediatric patients (Part B) with acute watery diarrhea of less than 24 hours' duration due to cholera. All subjects will be treated with standard of care (IV rehydration fluids, ORS,
Study Design This will be a randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial to assess the efficacy of three different modified ORSs: (i) Currently recommended ORS with some modification (Na+ 75, K 40 mmol/L and added minerals); (ii) Resomal (Na+ 45); (iii) Currently recommended ORS (Na+ 75 , K
Cholera remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Bangladesh and many other endemic countries in the world. The WHO recommends using the cholera vaccine in both epidemic and endemic areas to control outbreaks. An affordable oral vaccine is now available for use in endemic settings; however,
Adults as well as children, both males and females will be recruited in the study from the urban suburbs around Dhaka city in Mirpur where we have been conducting other epidemiological and vaccine related studies. The community will be informed by our field staffs and interested persons might be
Globally, diarrhoea still accounts for 1.6 to 2.5 million deaths annually, and children in the developing world experience an average of 3 episodes of diarrhoea each year. Despite the decline in diarrhoeal mortality, it remains a leading cause of childhood morbidity and deaths [1]. Prevention of
Cholera is caused by infection of the human intestine with Vibrio cholerae O1 or V. cholerae O139. It is a major health problem in many developing countries including Bangladesh.1 The importance of cholera as a worldwide public health problem is evident from the large number of countries affected by
Considerable interest has recently been generated on dietary fibers (DF), and soluble fibers have emerged both as a subject for research and therapeutic applications. The 'fiber hypothesis', put forward by Denis Bukitt and Hugh Trowel (1-4), suggests that consumption of unrefined carbohydrate food
Globally An estimated 140-250 million under-five children are deficient in vitamin A, which is associated with increased mortality and morbidity among this population. A relationship between the severity of vitamin A deficiency and childhood mortality has also been reported. In 2002, the United
Diarrheal diseases are some of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality in the world today. Unfortunately, effective vaccines for most of the infectious causes of diarrhea are not yet available. Vibrio cholerae (V cholerae) is an important infectious cause of severe secretory diarrhea in

A total of 182 evaluable patients (those with a positive stool culture for V. cholerae O1 or V. cholerae O139 and remain in the study for full 5 days) will be required for this study.
