Pinus thunbergii Parl., known as black pine, is a pine native to coastal areas of Japan and Korea. Because of its resistance to pollution and salt, it is planted as windbreakers along the coast. In March 2010, needle blight symptoms were found on several trees of black pine in Naju, southern Korea.
BACKGROUND
To investigate the volatile compounds and the antibacterial and antioxidant effects of the essential oils of Pinus densiflora needles (EPDN) and Pinus thunbergii needles (EPTN), the volatile compounds of steam-distilled essential oils were analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
The mating systems of most ectomycorrhizal fungi have not been elucidated because of two reasons. One is the difficulty of obtaining homokaryotic isolates for mating tests caused by the low germination rate of basidiospores, and another is the difficulty of checking dikaryotization caused by the
Spore forming actinobacteria (sporoactinobacteria) isolated from soils with an acidic pH in Pinus thunbergii forests and coal mine waste were subjected to taxonomic characterization. For the isolation of acidophilic actinobacteria, acidified starch casein agar (pH adjusted to 4-5) was used. The
