Clinical improvement in pain score as defined by visual analog score with a scale from 0-10 where is 0 is no pain and 10 is unbearable pain. Pain should decrease over time and this will be measure by the visual analog scale

investigational pharmacists and designated personell will the only unblinded study staff.

Patients will be randomized to self treat with 2 g of VM1001 cream times daily for ten days, have a five day wash out period and then 10 days of self treatment with the comparator.

Patients will be randomized to self treat with either active product or placebo comparator thrice daily for 10 days followed by a 5 day wash out period then 10 days of experimental treatment thrice daily for 20 days.

Treatment of Severe Mucositis Pain With Oral Ketamine Mouthwash

Reduction in pain score as reported after use of ketamine mouthwash on a numeric scale compared to a baseline assessment.

Patients will be questioned regarding tolerability of mouthwashes due to taste and irritation.

Patients will be questioned about time until maximal pain relief and given options of: no effect, 1-15 minutes, 15-30 minutes, 30-45 minutes, 45-60 minutes and greater than 1 hour.

Patients will be question about the duration of pain relief and given the option of no effect, less than one hour, 1-2 hours, 2-3 hours, 3-4 hours, greater than 4 hours or N/A.

Daily narcotic analgesic use will be recorded.

Daily topical lidocaine usage will be recorded.

Sleep quality, as reported by the subject on a numeric scale, and food intake will be used as surrogate markers of quality of life.
