Microstimulation within and below the ventrocaudal nucleus (Vc) in the human thalamus typically evokes non-painful, paraesthetic cutaneous sensations. We now describe cases in which thalamic microstimulation evoked visceral pains. Data were obtained during stereotactic thalamotomy procedures.
