Thaumatin-like proteins (TLPs), a class of pathogenesis related proteins are induced in response to pathogens and exhibit antifungal property when overexpressed in transgenic plants. In the present study, we have raised transgenic potato plants overexpressing TLP gene of Camellia sinensis (CsTLP).
The introduction of the thaumatin gene into potato plants was accompanied by a decrease in the activity of H(+)-ATPase in the plasmalemma (PL) of tuber cells. When tubers were released from dormancy, the enzyme was activated in the tuber cells of both the original and transgenic plants. Experiments
Defence-response (DR) genes are candidates for the genetic functions underlying quantitative resistance to plant pathogens. The organization of three DR gene families encoding phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), acidic PR-(pathogenesis-related) protein 5, and basic PR-5, or osmotin-like (OSM),

We have purified a 22 kDa protein from maize seeds to homogeneity by ammonium sulfate precipitation, chitin extraction and Mono-S column chromatography. The purified protein inhibited the growth of the agronomically important pathogens of potato wilt (Fusarium oxysporum) and tomato early blight
Rhizoctonia solaniis an important root infecting pathogen of a range of food staples worldwide including wheat, rice, maize, soybean, potato and others. Conventional resistance breeding strategies are hindered by the absence of tractable genetic resistance in any crop host. Understanding the biology

We have purified a 27 kDa protein from the overripe fruits of Diospyros texana to homogeneity by ammonium sulfate precipitation, DEAE-Sepharose and C18 reversed phase column chromatographies. The purified protein inhibited the growth of the agronomically important pathogen Phytophthora infestans,
