The objective of the proposed minimal-risk, non-interventional retrospective (January 2012 onwards) as well as prospective, cross-sectional observational study (i.e., NCCU Research Repository) is to better understand the common pathophysiological pathways of life-threatening neurological illnesses,
I. BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE
1. Historical Background
Every day 16,000 children under the age of 5-years die. Although strides have been made in early diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia, it still accounts for about 15% of deaths of children under 5-years (1). Unfortunately care providers in low-
Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is local acute phase protein with regenerative properties that become biologic inactive during chronic inflammation and loses the binding affinity to glycosaminoglycan in the extracellular ma-trix. HGF is excreted into the gastrointestinal tract and is not detected in
Rationale: Current seasonal influenza vaccines mainly induce immune responses against viral membrane glycoproteins. These proteins, however, undergo continuous mutations by a process called antigenic drift. To prevent immune escape, annual vaccination with the latest predicted viral strains is
While recent advances in the treatment of metastatic melanoma and NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer) with agents targeting PD-1 are striking, there remains a significant need to develop therapies for patients with untreated brain metastases who were excluded from prior trials with MK-3475 and the
Although the initial treatment of malignant gliomas is well established, the best treatment for progressive disease remains undefined. Patients with newly diagnosed gliomas are typically treated with surgery followed by conformal radiation and concomitant chemotherapy. Even though these tumors are
5 PATIENT SELECTION 5.1 Eligibility Criteria
Patients must fulfill all the following criteria to be eligible for admission for the study:
1. Histologically proven central nervous system lymphoma of brain parenchyma with or without leptomeningeal involvement.
2. No evidence of systemic lymphoma.
3.
With the advance of chemoradiotherapy, survival of patients, especially children, with malignant disease has improved. However, prognosis is still poor with conventional chemotherapy if patients have an advanced or high-risk tumor at diagnosis. Outcome in advanced or high-risk pediatric solid tumor
