A compound and method for treating tinea pedis. An antifungal agent, such as melaleuca alternifolia extract oil, is added to the ingredients of soap in a concentration that is great enough to treat tinea pedis when the skin is washed with the soap. As a result, a person is effectively applying a preventative treatment of the antifungal agent each time that person baths with the soap. The duration of the treatment is regulated by selectively altering the size and/or amount of soap. Other ingredients can also be added to the soap to increase the effectiveness of the antifungal agent. Furthermore, fragrance can be added to the soap to mask any unpleasant odor that may be associated with the antifungal agent or the other active ingredients.

Provided is an improved therapeutic skin care preparation that combines traditional moisturizer components including glycerin, aloe vera gel, beeswax, titanium dioxide and fragrance, thickeners including sodium carrageenan, and antiseptic ingredients including tincture of iodine and melaleuca alternifolia. By varying the proportions of these ingredients, skin preparations suitable for particular body areas may be produced. The skin preparation not only performs the traditional functions of treating or preventing the effects on skin of drying, chapping or aging but further serves as a healing agent for minor skin irritation or sores so often associated with such conditions.

Therapeutic skin preparation

A composition for topical application with antifungal activity, containing Melaleuca alternifolia essential oil, oregano essential oil, lime essential oil and an ester of vitamin E is enclosed. Vitamin E acetate, n-propionate or linoleate, and is preferably alpha-tocopheryl acetate; preferably, these oils constitute at least 3% by weight of the composition and each of them constitutes at least 1% by weight of the composition; preferably, the composition contains from 10% to 97% of the ester of vitamin E and can consist of the three aforementioned essential oils and the vitamin E ester; alternatively, the composition can be in the form of hydrophobic gel, containing 10 to 50% of the ester of vitamin E, 20 to 60% of a vegetable butter or wax, from 10 to 30% of triglyceride of caprylic and capric acid and from 5 to 20% of a gelling agent for lipids and at least 3% of the aforementioned essential oils, each of which constitutes at least 1% by weight of the composition.

Composition for topical application with antifungal activity

Concentrated vapors from botanical essential oils are inhaled to prevent, treat and cure infections of the respiratory pathogens causing Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome ("SARS").
