We have screened for in vitro inhibition of viral replication with extracts from the following marine microalgae: Porphyridium cruentum, Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Tetraselmis suecica, Chlorella autotrophica, Dunaliella tertiolecta, Dunaliella bardawil, Isochrysis galbana, Isochrysis galbana var
Domestic pig herds in some regions of Germany are permanently threatened by Classical Swine Fever. In the case of suspicion, a series of infectious and non infectious causes has to be excluded. The present paper describes a case of Escherichia coli septicaemia, with clinical and pathological
Rift valley fever (RVF) is a mosquito-borne disease of domestic and wild ruminants caused by RVF virus (RVFV), a phlebovirus (Bunyaviridae). RVF is widespread in Sub-Saharan Africa. In September of 2010, an RVF outbreak occurred in northern Mauritania involving mass abortions in small ruminants and
Two groups of four calves each were immunized either intramuscularly (i.m. vaccinated) or intranasally (i.n. vaccinated) at 2 and 6 weeks of age with ca. 10(9) CFU of a derivative of P. multocida serotype B:2 strain 85020 containing a deletion in the aroA gene (strain JRMT12). Both groups of calves
The livestock and poultry sectors are an integral part of Nepalese economy and lifestyle. Livestock and poultry populations have continuously been increasing in the last decade in Nepal and are likely to follow that trend as the interests in this field is growing. Infectious diseases such as Foot
From May 21 to June 4, 1993, a collaborative training project involving U.S. Army veterinary personnel, the Lao-American Integrated Rural Development Project, and the Lao Department of Livestock and Veterinary Services occurred in the Houa Muang District of Houa Phan Province in northeastern Laos.
The Pasteurella multocida subsp. multocida B:2 serotype causes hemorrhagic septicemia in bubalines with high morbidity and mortality in the Indian subcontinent. We report the draft genome sequence of Pasteurella multocida strain VTCCBAA264 isolated from the small-intestine of a buffalo calf that
Companion animals comprise a wide variety of species, including dogs, cats, horses, ferrets, guinea pigs, reptiles, birds and ornamental fish, as well as food production animal species, such as domestic pigs, kept as companion animals. Despite their prominent place in human society, little is known
A whole blood lymphocyte stimulation assay to study cell-mediated immune responses in bovine pasteurellosis was developed. Peripheral blood lymphocytes from cattle artificially immunised with three Asiatic haemorrhagic septicaemia strains of Pasteurella multocida exhibited higher stimulation indices
Pasteurella multocide (P. multocida), a small gram-negative bacillus, has been known to be the causative agent of hemorrhagic septicemia in animals. P. multocida infection in human was reported as skin abscess and/or septicemia after an animal bit or scratch. Pulmonary infections of P. multocida
METHODS
Three dairy calf-rearing properties experienced high mortality in calves during 2008 and 2009. Affected calves were aged 13-18 weeks (Farm I), 6 months (Farm II), and 2-11 weeks (Farm III), and the mortality rate was 22/175 (13%), 5/80 (6%), and 60/900 (7%), respectively.

There remains today a critical need for new antiviral agents, particularly in view of the alarming increase in drug resistance and associated issues. The marine environment has been a prolific contributor towards the identification of novel therapeutic agents in the recent few decades. Added to
A 60-year-old male who had been suffering from liver cirrhosis was admitted to our hospital with high grade fever accompanied by right chest pain. Chest X-rays revealed a moderate amount of pleural fluid suggesting pleuritis. Multocida was isolated from the blood culture as well as the pleural
