OBJECTIVE
To isolate and purify high purity 23-hydroxybetulinic acid from the roots of Pulsatilla chinensis.
METHODS
By acid hydrolysis, silica gel column chromatographies and recrystalization methods, 23-hydroxybetulinic acid was obtained from the roots of P. chinensis.
RESULTS
High purity
Pulsatilla chinensis saponins, the major active components in the herb, have drawn great attention as potential hepatitis B virus infection and hepatoma treatments. Here, a sensitive and accurate HPLC-MS/MS method was established for simultaneous determination of three saponins - anemoside B4,
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL REVELANCE: Pulsatilla chinensis (Bunge)Regel has been used as adjuvant in chemotherapy in traditional Chinese medicine. 23-Hydroxybetulinic acid, an isolated pentacyclic triterpene, is the major active constituent of Pulsatilla chinensis (Bunge) Regel.
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the
BACKGROUND
The rizoma of Pulsatilla chinensis (Bunge) Regel has been used as a traditional Chinese medicinal herb for thousands of years. Total saponins from P. chinensis can induce the apoptosis of solid cancer cells; however, their activity on chronic myeloid leukemia and the mechanisms remains
A new lupane type triterpenic acid, pulsatillic acid, and two new lupane type triterpenoid glycosides, pulsatilloside A and B, along with the known 23-hydroxybetulinic acid were isolated from the roots of Pulsatilla chinensis. Their structures were characterized as
Pulsatilla Decoction (Bai Tou Weng Tang) has been used medically in China for thousands of years for the treatment of diseases caused by bacteria. In recent decades, Pulsatilla Decoction is becoming a well-known formula prescription used for the treatment of ulcerative colitis in traditional Chinese
OBJECTIVE
The clinical use of doxorubicin, an effective anticancer drug, is severely hampered by its cardiotoxicity. 23-Hydroxybetulinic acid (23-HBA), isolated from Pulsatilla chinensis, enhances the anticancer effect of doxorubicin while simultaneously reducing its cardiac toxicity, but does not
Context: 23-Hydroxybetulinic acid (23-HBA), a major active constituent of Pulsatilla chinensis (Bunge) Regel (Ranunculaceae), exhibits potential antitumor activity. Its metabolism, however, has not yet been studied. Objective: This study focuses on the metabolism of 23-HBA in
Two new lupane glycosides along with five known triterpenoids were isolated from the roots of Pulsatilla chinensis (Ranunculaceae). The structures of the new glycosides were determined to be 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->3)-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl-23-hydroxybetulinic acid
The mitochondrion plays a crucial role in the process of apoptosis and has thus become one of the targets for the search for potential chemotherapeutic agents. Betulinic acid [3beta-hydroxy-lup-20(19)lupaen-28-carbonic acid], a lupane-type triterpene which is abundant in many plant species, has been
