The present invention relates to a method of predicting or monitoring the sensitivity of a subject having a tumor to a chemotherapy, a method of selecting an appropriate chemotherapeutic treatment of cancer, a method of screening or identifying a compound suitable for improving the treatment of a cancer, and corresponding kits. The method of predicting or monitoring the sensitivity of a subject having a tumor to a chemotherapy typically comprises a step a) of determining, in a biological sample from said subject, the presence, absence or expression level of at least one of a soluble B7H6 (sB7H6 or sB7-H6) and a soluble MIC (sMIC) and, when the expression level is determined, a step b) of comparing said expression level to a reference expression level, thereby assessing or monitoring whether the subject having a tumor is responsive or resistant to the chemotherapy.

Herein described is an invention of the usage, design and effective procedures 1.) for selected combined methods for preparation and 2.) for coordination of sequence, dosage and administration in utilizing anti-HIV thiophenoyl urea TUR (or related drugs) chemotherapy as well as for utilizing HIV induced or augmented nonvirion antigen NVA (or early polypeptide vaccine EPV or related or derivative) immunotherapy in treatment of HIV+ and AIDS patients (and applicable to Karposi's sarcoma and to other retroviral diseases). Herein described is an invention of 3.) the usage, design and effective procedures for a combination of TUR and NVA (or similar elements) as specific active immunochemotherapy for the treatment of HIV positive and AIDS patients, which consists of a vaccine (NVA) composed of separated and concentrated early virus-induced or augmented nonvirion polypeptides which induce long-lasting cell-mediated immunity administered at the peak of effects by a synergistic antiviral drug, TUR, which causes minimal or no resistance.

Methods and pharmaceuticals for inhibiting or preventing metastasis formation in animals, including humans, having primary tumors, through the administration of phosphorothioates including their thiol and disulfide metabolites are disclosed. These compounds stimulate angiostatin levels, inhibit matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), and stimulate manganese superoxidase dismutase (MnSOD). Phosphorothioates, of which amifostine is an example, can be administered as a combination therapy with traditional cancer therapies, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, immunotherapy, hormone therapy and gene-therapy. Poly(ester-anhydrides) or polyesters formed from ricinoleic acid and natural fatty diacids and their method of preparation and its use for delivering bioactive agents including small drug molecules, peptides and proteins, DNA and DNA complexes with cationic lipids or polymers or nano and microparticles loaded with bioactive agents are disclosed herein. The drug delivery compositions are administered to a patient in a liquid form, increase in viscosity in vivo to form a drug depot or implant, and are able to release the incorporated bioactive agent for weeks. In the preferred embodiment, the drug delivery formulations are administered by injection. In one embodiment, the compositions are suitable for local or regional delivery of drugs to diseased sites, such as treating solid tumors and bone infections. In a preferred embodiment, the drug delivery compositions are suitable for site-specific chemotherapy for the treatment of solid tumors including: squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head and neck, prostate cancer, and sarcomas for intratumoral injection or insertion.
