Final report on the safety assessment of sodium p-chloro-m-cresol, p-chloro-m-cresol, chlorothymol, mixed cresols, m-cresol, o-cresol, p-cresol, isopropyl cresols, thymol, o-cymen-5-ol, and carvacrol.
Sodium p-Chloro-m-Cresol, p-Chloro-m-Cresol (PCMC), Mixed Cresols, m-Cresol, o-Cresol, p-Cresol, Isopropyl Cresols, Thymol, Chlorothymol, o-Cymen-5-ol, and Carvacrol are substituted phenols used as cosmetic biocides/preservatives and/or fragrance ingredients. Only PCMC, Thymol, and o-Cymen-5-ol are
BACKGROUND
Cresol is a phenol derivative used as a disinfectant worldwide. Acute cresol poisoning is potentially fatal as it may cause multiple organ failure. We present a case of acute cresol intoxication in a male patient to illustrate the effects of cresol poisoning.
METHODS
A 42-year-old male
Cresol is a well-known environmental pollutant, toluene metabolite, uremic toxicant and accidental poisoning product. Formocresol, a preparation of formalin and cresol, is also used as a root canal medicament and for pulpotomy of primary teeth. However, little is known about its effect on
OBJECTIVE
Cresols are present in antiseptics, coal tar, some resins, pesticides, and industrial solvents. Cresol intoxication leads to hepatic injury due to coagulopathy as well as disturbance of hepatic circulation in fatal cases. Patients with uremia suffer from cardiovascular complications, such
P-cresol is a well-known uremic toxin and environmental toxicant that may affect platelet functions. In this study, p-cresol (1-5 μM) inhibited the arachidonic acid (AA)-induced platelet aggregation, with 47% and 82% of inhibition at concentrations of 2 and 5 μM, respectively. Under similar
(1) The concentrations of unconjugated and conjugated phenol, p-cresol, benzyl alcohol, catechol, hydroquinone, homocatechol, and 2-methoxyresorcinol in uremic serum were determined using a mass fragmentographic method. Concentrations of all phenols in uremic serum were higher than in normal serum.
Growth, nutrient balance, plasma ammonia levels and urinary p-cresol excretion were evaluated in growing pigs fed diets containing various levels of zeolite A or clinoptilolite. In one growth trial, crossbred pigs averaging 25 kg initial body weight were assigned to diets containing no zeolite, .3%
