Recent bacterial genome sequencing projects have shown the presence of many putative sesquiterpene cyclase (SC) genes, especially in the Gram-positive, filamentous bacterial genus Streptomyces. We describe here the characterization of a SC gene (SGR6065, named gecA) from Streptomyces griseus.
